 Matlacha Island
Chamber of Commerce

Matlacha (Mat-la-shay) Island is the gateway to Pine Island,
an unspoiled, olde Florida destination off Florida's southwest gulf coast.
Fishing poles co-exist with paintbrushes in this tiny village
which had no electricity until 1941.  Shrimp boats,
art galleries, fishermen and restaurateurs who prepare the catch
are all part of the color of this historic island village.

As you pass through Matlacha Island, you'll drive over the renowned
“Fishingest Bridge” packed with anglers vying for their fresh daily catch.
Until 1927, when the first of three bridges went up,
the only way to Matlacha was by water.

Not that fishing is all there is to do around Matlacha.
There's shrimping, crabbing, clamming. There are nature preserves
kayaking, birding and lots of history to explore.  Visitors sightsee and shop,
like in the real world, only the sights and the shops look different.

Come and spend the day on Matlacha and you'll see what we mean!
